What do I do?
I’m the sole owner and the head trainer of CrossFit Coastal, a Wilmington based CrossFit affiliate. I have the privilege of teaching CrossFit to a great community of people who passionately care about their health as much as I do.

How did I get started w/ CrossFit?
Originally, I was just looking for a better way to work out. Boredom was one of the biggest factors in my discovery of CrossFit. The excessive hours spent running, swimming and biking were becoming pretty tedious despite my endurance background and love for racing. I was searching for a new competitive outlet that would drive me to become faster AND stronger.

Prior to founding CrossFit Coastal, I was a Technical Applications Specialist in the United States Air Force where I had the privilege of serving alongside some of the finest men and women in the US military. I discovered CrossFit while stationed in Denver, CO. After test driving the program for only a few months, the results I experienced were phenomenal - I was HOOKED!

Within 6 months, I was certified to teach the CrossFit method, approved as an official CrossFit affiliate, and began to spread CrossFit in my hometown – Wilmington, NC.

How long have I been doing this?
I became an official CrossFit affiliate at the end of 2007 and started training anyone that was interested at Hugh McRae Park (armed only with a handful of kettlebells and a tire). What began as just myself and a couple friends grew into a small enthusiastic tribe – and by summertime, our group took root in a 900 sq ft training studio and CrossFit Coastal was formed.

Over the past two years, CrossFit Coastal has established its presence in Wilmington and recently expanded to a 7,000 sq ft training center on Market St. Our approach to CrossFit has taken off and we greatly appreciate everyone who has made this a possibility!

The Difference?
Having traveled to many CrossFit affiliates across the US, as well as Ecuador, South Korea, and Japan, I share the collective experience and effective teaching methods drawn from the best CrossFitters worldwide. Many of the lessons learned in these foreign environments are incorporated in my unique approach to functional fitness.

About: I’ve always made it a priority to be fit and healthy and have found CrossFit to be the best venue to that goal. All those years at the gym were but feeble attempts to getting and staying in shape. I was introduced to CrossFit a year ago by my son, and only wish I could have introduced it to him. Meaning, I wish I would have known about CrossFit in my twenties. At forty-seven, I can honestly say I feel physically and mentally the fittest I have ever been. And can now look forward to being 50 and 60 and 70 as long as I keep Crossfitting!

I’m a follower of Christ, mother of 3 and wife to Rolando, my number one fan.
As a Crossfit Certified Trainer, I am excited to share this remarkably effective fitness program.

I have always had an interest in sports and fitness. Whether it was playing a handful of sports, dance class or kickboxing, physical activity has always been a part of her life. I have pursued my love of fitness by attending West Chester University and graduating with a BS in Kinesiology, Exercise Science. Shortly after graduating, I started working in the corporate fitness field. While working in this field, I obtained my NSCA-CPT (Certified Personal Trainer) as well as the YogaFit certification.

Being married to a USMC Pilot and full-time mom put my career on hold, but I have still been able to personal train and teach regular yoga classes. I was introduced to CrossFit about 2 years ago by my husband, Ryan Curry, who is Level 1 Certified. Since that first workout, “Cindy”, I was hooked .

Since “Cindy” was her first CF experience, it is still one of my favorite benchmark workouts. I joined CFC in August 2009 and became Level 1 Certified in May 2010. Some of my favorite CrossFit moments include my first pullup, being able to do a benchmark RX’d for the first time and most recently getting a new PR dead lift at 255 lbs. This experience has changed my life; it helps me stay focused, blow off steam and stay healthy and strong. I look forward to sharing this outlook with you and using it to help motivate you!
