[singlepic=232,420,340,,]
Functional fitness (CrossFit) has met its perfect counterpart – the art of functional movement (Parkour).
Parkour, l’art du déplacement, (English: the art of displacement) is an activity with the aim of moving from one point to another as efficiently and quickly as possible, using principally the abilities of the human body. Parkour focuses on practicing efficient movements to develop one’s body and mind to be able to overcome obstacles in an emergency.
How does CrossFit relate to Parkour?
CrossFit is a fitness program based on constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensities. CrossFit is a way of exercising that emphasizes functional fitness. It does not specifically train for any particular activity, but for all activities in life. CrossFitters believe that a solid base of General Physical Preparedness (GPP) gained through high intensity training will improve performance in any activity, and they’re proving it.
Here are some great pictures of North Carolina traceurs (individuals who practice parkour) in action. Pictures provided by our good friends over at www.ncparkour.com . Visit them if you are interested in learning more about this amazing sport.
