Attention Ladies, The 2 Main Reasons Why Lifting Heavy Weights Will Not Make You Bulky.
At CrossFit Coastal, we offer a balanced approach to fitness. We are not a powerlifting gym and our ladies do not look like the women on the cover of bodybuilding magazines.
Just in case you have any doubts about this, here are the two main reasons why lifting heavy weights will not make you look like a fem-schwarzenegger.
- Women do not have the same testosterone levels as men.
In fact, unless you started growing a beard when you hit puberty, chances are you have up to 20 times less testosterone then men do. Testosterone is one of the primary reasons why men are more apt to gain muscle then women. - Bulking up is calorie dependent.
You burn about 600-800 calories during a one hour session of CrossFit. (This is not counting all of the calories you burn up because of the raised metabolic rate throughout the rest of the day after high intensity exercise.) The “after effect” of CrossFit is drastically more effective for fat loss then long, drawn out, low intensity continuous exercise. If there is a caloric deficit in your body, then you will lose weight. If there is caloric excess, then you will gain weight. Yes, it is that simple. However, you do not want to have a huge caloric deficit because you will lose a lot of lean muscle in the process. There you have it – you can give your two year old those plastic pink dumbbells you’ve been bicep curling all these years, since you don’t need them anymore. Are you asking yourself why those little cute dumbbells are even made? They are “easy” and easy is what sells.
CrossFit is hard work and will deliver the fastest results in town. Guaranteed.
